Research

My research interests lie in how literature of the diaspora and exile arising from the Hispanophone Caribbean (including the island nations of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic) communicates nostalgia, despair, and a desire to return home. I question what it means to “belong” to a certain country or culture when you straddle several nationalities. As an attempt to answer these questions, I would focus on archival studies, oral histories as legitimate forms of telling, and the constructs and limitations of cultural identities and citizenship. I also want to examine the intergenerational and historical trauma that immigrants experience and pass on to future generations. I aim to closely analyze Latinx postmemory through a postcolonial and feminist lens.
